Eligibility

To be eligible to attend the Transport and Main Roads practical driving test:

You need to:

have held an open or provisional ‘C’ or ‘CA’ Licence for at least 12 months
passed a heavy vehicle written test conducted by Transport and Main Roads

Vehicles You Will Be Able To Drive

A Light Rigid Bus of not more than 8t GVM and no more than 12 passengers (driver included)
A Light Rigid Truck between 4.5t GVM and 8t GVM

Your practical test will take approximately 30 – 35 minutes

Driving Lesson Costs:

You can attend our one day Course which includes your On Road Practical Driving Test with Transport and Main roads: $450 for the day or you can elect to have hourly lessons which start at: $100 per hour

MR Licence - Medium Rigid Licence

Eligibility

The eligibility is the same as for the Light Rigid Licence above

Vehicles You Will Be Able To Drive:

A truck that weighs more than 8t, but has not more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer weighing 9t GVM or less
A bus that weighs more than 8t, but has not more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer weighing 9t GVM or less
A specially constructed heavy vehicle that weighs more than 8t, but has not more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer weighing 9t GVM or less

Your practical test will take approximately 60 – 70 minutes

Driving Lesson Costs:

You can attend our one day Course which includes your On Road Practical Driving Test with Transport and Main Roads: $750 for the day or you can elect to have hourly lessons which start at: $110 per hour

HR Licence - Heavy Rigid Licence (Restricted)

Eligibility

Drivers looking to obtain this truck licence will be required to have held an Open or Provisional Class C or CA Licence continuously for more than 2 years. Alternatively, the driver is eligible if they have held an LR Licence or MR Licence for a total of one year.

Vehicles You Will Be Able To Drive:

A truck, prime mover or bus that weighs more than 8t GVM that has more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer that weighs 9t GVM or less
An articulated bus with more than 2 axles that weighs more than 8t GVM
A specially constructed heavy vehicle that weighs more than 8t GVM that has more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer that weighs 9t GVM or less

Driving Lesson Costs:

You can attend our one day Course which includes your On Road Practical Driving Test with Transport and Main Roads: $950 for the day or you can elect to have hourly lessons which start at: $120 per hour

HR Licence - Heavy Rigid Licence Unrestricted

Eligibility

Vehicles You Will Be Able To Drive:

A truck, prime mover or bus that weighs more than 8t GVM that has more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer that weighs 9t GVM or less
An articulated bus with more than 2 axles that weighs more than 8t GVM
A specially constructed heavy vehicle that weighs more than 8t GVM that has more than 2 axles, with or without an attached trailer that weighs 9t GVM or less

Driving Lesson Costs:

The HR Unrestricted License requires more time and can be completed with a 3 – 4 day Course which includes your On road Practical Driving Test with Transport and Main Roads: Starts at $1,495 for the all inclusive course or you can elect to have hourly lessons which start at: $120 per hour

HC Licence - Heavy Combination Licence

Eligibility

You must have held your HR License or MR License for one year continuously.

Vehicles You Will Be Able To Drive:

A prime mover that weighs more than 15t GVM that has at least 3 axels and a semi-trailer that has at least 2 axles
A truck that weighs more than 15t GVM with at least 3 axles and a trailer that weighs more than 9t GVM with at least 2 axles

Driving Lesson Costs:

Experienced HR Drivers can attend our one day Course which includes your On Road Practical Driving Test with Transport and Main Roads at $950 for the day. Please note if you do not have previous experience driving a HR appropriate vehicle you may need more truck driving lessons than just the one day course.
